July 2009.

The innovative boats of the future are equipped with highly sophisticated Furuno navigation solutions, which have been tailored to suit this ship class.

The first delivered boat was named PV 161. The transfer took place during a reception seremony where prestige guests were present.

With the PV 08 series the marine performance of the Border Guard will improve due to the excellent seaworthiness and greater operational speed of the boats. The boat systems are connected more effectively with marine situational systems, resulting in more effective managerial- and operational readiness for the border control and sea rescue.

The Border Guard is the leading search and rescue (SAR) authority at sea and a maritime law enforcement authority with a variety of duties. The Border Guard is responsible for SAR at sea when human lives or the environment are in danger.

Maritime SAR covers duties such as assisting ships and boats in distress, accident prevention, searches for missing persons and transport of ill and injured persons from islands and the sea.

The Border Guard’s duties also include the surveillance of Finland's sea areas, supervision of traffic at sea and prevention of damage to the maritime environment.

FURUNO was awarded the National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA) 2008 Innovation Award at the 67th Annual Miami International Boat Show. With a total of 50 entries in eight different categories, FURUNO's NavNet 3D won in the Consumer Electronics & Software category. One of the judges, John Wooldridge of PassageMaker magazine, was quoted saying "The deeper you look, the more you will find with this remarkable and comprehensive, onboard navigation system. This is a truly game-changing product that sets the standard for the industry."

NavNet 3D is a completely new design for a component-based electronic navigation suite. The brains of the system are based in its Multi Function Display (MFD) units. Choose from an 8.4-inch, 12.1-inch or Black Box MFD, depending on the vessel size and need. From there, add on a variety of components to round out the package, such as the Ultra High Definition (UHD) Digital Radar Sensor, FURUNO Digital Filter (FDF) Fish Finder, Sirius Satellite Weather Receiver, GPS/WAAS Receiver, Autopilot, AIS Receiver, Digital Instruments, IP Cameras and more.

The chart plotter displays raster or vector charts in 2D or 3D anytime, on the fly. NavNet 3D is able to do all of this because of its powerful graphic engine and a new technology MaxSea developed called TimeZero™;. TimeZero™ facilitates real and seamless chart redraw without limited range presets. The chart can be zoomed seamlessly and continuously in and out to whatever chart scale is desired, instead of limiting the fixed range scales that you select from on conventional chart plotters.

In addition to the 2008 Innovation Award, FURUNO was also presented with the 2007 Motor Boating Best of the Year Award for NavNet 3D. "We are extremely pleased by the industries acknowledgement of just how ground-breaking NavNet 3D is for marine electronics," commented Jeff Kauzlaric, Advertising & Communications Manager of FURUNO USA, Inc. "NavNet 3D is not only a revolutionary product for FURUNO, but for the industry as a whole. We view this as just the first step toward a new era of marine electronics."

The FCV-1150 is a new color digital fish finder which utilizes FURUNO's DSP (Digital Signal Processing) technology, a revolutionary digital filter that adapts to your fishing environment by adjusting gain, STC clutter and output power, as well as suppressing main bang (the echoes just below the transducer).

It contains a high-brightness (1,000 cd), bonded 12.1" LCD display with AR (Anti-Reflective)-coated glass filter and anti-polarized sunglass filter, providing superior viewing even in direct sunlight. You can choose to display the echo presentation in 8, 16, or 64 colors. The FURUNO Free Synthesizer (FFS) Transceiver allows for a selection of any two frequencies between 28 and 200 kHz to best suit the fishing operation. Output power is selectable from 1, 2 or 3 kW.

When connected with a FURUNO satellite compass SC-30/50/110, the FCV-1150 presents unwavering and stable detection even in rough seas thanks to the heaving compensation.
